Like Shin Jonghak, Nayun was a fourth generation chaebol. But rather than a twisted superiority complex, she carried a righteous sense of rivalry. She believed she could surpass her rivals through hard-work and self-cultivation.
History[]
Born to a wealthy family on March 13, 2008, Chae Nayun was groomed to be a warrior from a young age. She has a grandfather, Chae Joochul, a father, Chae Shinhuk, and a brother, Chae Jinyoon. Her mother was killed by a djinn causing her to wield a bow.
At the beginning she, like everyone, looks down on Kim Hajin because of the stigma attached to gun wielders, but she begins to hate him because he mentions her brother, who became comatose due to a mission, after a djinn attack during a club outing. She complains to Shin Jonghak causing Jonghak to dispatch some of his lackeys to harass Hajin.
Hajin, knowing that Nayun is more suited to wield a sword, pressures her to give up on wielding a bow. She refuses at first due to her pride and fear of blood. In order to convince her Hajin propose a contest to show who is better at using the bow, Nayun or himself with the conditions that Nayun give up the bow if she loses. With everyone knowing that Hajin a little to no experience with a bow, Nayun agrees after giving Hajin sometime to prepare. Nayun is utterly beaten by Hajin in the contest but Hajin does not force the condition. Nayun then resolves herself to take up the sword and begins to show large improvements almost immediately.
After being helped by Hajin multiple times and several misunderstandings, Nayun forms the misconception that he loves her. This in turn causes to her begin having feelings for him. Shin Jonghak shows an interest in Nayun, however, she does not notice his feelings at all.
As Chae Nayun's feelings for Hajin grow, Hajin is forced to kill her brother, Chae Jinyoon. Jinyoon was infected with an incurable “Devil Seed.” Whoever is infected by it will become a devil and kill everything in sight. To prevent this disaster Kim Hajin kills Chae Jinyoon.
Nayun finds out that Hajin killed her brother, but doesn't know why. Nayun develops severe PTSD from finding out and loses her sense of taste. She is confused, because of her feelings for Hajin conflict with her desire for revenge. Hajin shortly leaves Cube afterward becoming the gun wielding mercenary "Fenrir" giving her no chance to meet him. She becomes determined to realize her revenge and trains for a majority of three years until accidentally meeting Hajin again in the Tower of Wish.
After meeting Hajin, Nayun then decides to investigate how her brother died. She finds out that her brother was infected with the 'Devil's Seed.' She regrets her actions and wants to see him again.
